Our Tax Dollars Are Hard At Work In Lee County

As residents of Lee County, we have a civil duty to pay taxes and support our local community. But have you ever wondered where all of your tax dollars go? The real and personal property taxes that you pay are a significant revenue source for our county and community. Did you know the property taxes that are collected are distributed to the Board of County Commissioners, the Lee County School District, our local cities, fire districts, law enforcement and several other local taxing authorities? That means that your tax dollars go towards providing vital services the residents of Lee County need.

Here are a few examples of how your tax dollars are bettering our community:

A portion of the tax dollars you pay to your local government goes toward the salaries and benefits of public safety workers, including 9-1-1 operators. Add to that the cost of maintaining police and fire stations and keeping emergency vehicles on the road, and there’s a big annual budget that needs to be covered. However, these are all things the county needs to keep its public safety departments running and to keep residents safe.

A portion of the money collected from property taxes goes towards maintaining public streets, roadways and infrastructure. It also pays for routine maintenance that ensures public safety on the roads. Some of this routine maintenance includes making the necessary street light and traffic light repairs, street cleaning, patching potholes, and even some improvements.

Paying your property taxes isn’t so taxing when you think of all the ways you can enjoy the year-round benefits!
